Socastee Woman Convicted After Leaving Baby in Trash Bin
CONWAY, SC (WTAT-TV) — A Socastee woman accused of leaving her newborn baby girl in a trash bag in the Peedee has been found guilty of attempted murder.
Shelby Taylor pleaded not guilty to the charges.
According to a report from the Associated Press, Taylor gave birth at home in 2015 while her husband and 16-month-old daughter were asleep.
The newborn was found in a white trash bag tied with a knot outside an apartment complex by two brothers.
Taylor turned herself in to police the same day and requested a jury trial.
The AP reports defense attorneys argued Taylor suffered from a severe form of postpartum depression.
She is expected to face sentencing next Thursday, February 15th.
Trinity Grace, the baby girl, did survive the incident.
