South Carolina Cities Rank High in National Geographic’s ‘Best Cities in the U.S.’
CHARLESTON, SC (WTAT-TV) — Popular magazine National Geographic has released a list of the top 30 ‘Best Cities in the United States,’ and it should not surprise that several South Carolina cities made that list.
National Geographic used several metrics to compile their data like population; the number of green spaces, breweries, and restaurants; nightlife, and so-called Instagrammable moments.
“At Nat Geo Travel, we’re passionate about tales of urban renewal, about communities that have collaborated to improve their Main Streets, about smart cities that have pursued development policies that produce happiness.”
Coming in a number 29 on that list was South Carolina’s capital city, Columbia. The magazine says Columbia tops their list for the meatiest city because they have the most BBQ spots per capita.
The Holy City, of course, made that list. Coming at number 11, Charleston was highlighted for its art scene, saying Instagrammers love Charleston abundance of art, from local artists to public spaces.
“Performing arts shine at the grand, three-year-old Gaillard Center, which hosts concerts and dance shows and serves as one of the venues for the city’s celebrated Spoleto Festival.”
Finally, Greenville came in at number 3 because of the communities ‘start-up spirit,’ along with the number of butchers, delis, and steakhouses. It also mentioned the nearly 40-foot waterfall at Falls Park and beautiful accompanying pedestrian bridge.
