CHARLESTON, SC (FOX 24) — John Price Law Firm and FOX 24 are teaming up to recognize student-athletes in the community who have excelled in their sport and personal life.

Our August honoree is Daniel Grimes, a junior and swimmer at Pinewood Preparatory Academy.

Grimes started swimming when he was five-years-old! By the time he was in 6th grade, he was already competing on the varsity swim team.

At age 15, he placed first in the 100-yard fly with a time of 57.25 at the SCISA State Championship meet in Augusta, earning him a medal and state ring.

He recently finished his 12th summer with the Ashborough Alligators and is entering his 6th year on the Pinewood varsity swim team.

Just this past week, he placed in the national group at the South Carolina Swim Club.

His other accomplishments include being a member of the National Society of High School Scholars and a Duke tip scholar.

During his free time, Daniel volunteers with Katie’s Krops and Home Again.

His two favorite subjects are history and math, and upon graduation in 2020, he plans to swim with a division 1 university.

Daniel Grimes is truly one to watch and we wish him the best of luck!

At the end of the school year, Daniel and the other recipients will be eligible to receive a $1,000 scholarship donation made to the school or university of his choice.
