SWAT Responds to Isle of Palms Domestic Incident
ISLE OF PALMS, SC (BRODIE HART, WTAT-TV) — A SWAT team with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a home on the Isle of Palms early Monday morning in reference to a domestic dispute.
According to Isle of Palms Police Chief, Thomas E. Buckhannon III, the department received a call around 1:15 a.m. about an argument at a home on the 200 block of Carolina Boulevard.
‘Officers arrived a few minutes after that,” he said. “They could hear some arguing going on. When they knocked on the door the occupants in the house turned the lights off and refused to come to the door.”
The SWAT team arrived to the scene around 4:00 a.m. and negotiators began speaking with the individuals around 6:00 a.m. before eventually getting them to come out of the home.
“We didn’t know if someone was hurt inside, if it was a simple argument, we didn’t know what we had at that point – we just knew that when we got the call and came out here, they refused to come out and refused to acknowledge that officers were at the door,” said Buckhannon.
Buckhannon said authorities were finally able to convince the couple to come out of the home and resolved the situation peacefully. There were no reports on injuries.
It is not yet known what led to the argument between the couple.
