Tobacco Store Owner Arrested, Failed to Report $1.25M Revenue

MANNING, SC (WTAT-TV) — A tobacco store owner in Clarendon County, SC has been arrested after officials say he failed to report more than a million dollars in revenue.

Ibrahim Said, owner and operator of Express Discount Tobacco has been charged with three counts of tax evasion.

According to a report from the South Carolina Department of Revenue, between 2014 and 2016, Said filed the business’ monthly sales tax returns and reported gross sales totaling $744,183.

But an investigations revealed sales for that period actually totaled $2,032.511. Said failed to report $1,258,328 in sales and evaded paying about $100,666 in sales tax.

Said was booked at the Clarendon County Detention Center and released on a $7,500 personal recognizance bond.

If convicted, he faces fines up to $10,000 and/or up to five years in prison for each count.
