Lockdown Lifted for Mount Pleasant Schools Following Suspicious Person Call
MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WTAT-TV) — Police in Mount Pleasant say Wando High School and surrounding school campuses were put on lockdown Thursday afternoon after receiving a call in reference to a suspicious person.
While there were no students injured or shots fired, students and faculty were placed on lockdown for some time as officers searched the school and surrounding areas.
Included in that lockdown were area schools Carolina Park Elementary, Oceanside Collegiate Academy, and Children’s Center Carolina Park.
Mount Pleasant Police were able to provide updates on social media and their mobile app for the duration of the lockdown situation, but the Charleston County School District remained mostly silent aside from a few social media updates directing people to the police station’s information.
Authorities lifted the lockdown after about an hour and had a person of interest in their custody. Information about that person has not yet been released.
Because of the lockdown, transportation for others schools was also interrupted at the end of the day. Students at Wando High School were finally released, but parents picking up their children were required to show ID.
