Weapons, ammunition stolen outside South Carolina gun show
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — More than 100,000 rounds of ammunition and five assault-style guns were stolen from a South Carolina gun show location.
The State newspaper says a police incident report shows the theft happened outside Columbia over the weekend. Police say the ammunition and guns were worth more than $19,000.
Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said Monday that several people involved with the gun show reported items stolen from their merchandise trailers parked overnight Friday. Koon says the firearms have been entered into a national database as stolen.
The gun show was being held at Jamil Temple, a Shriner-owned hall that is rented out to raise money for sick, injured and disabled children. Shriner spokesman Dwight Harsey says the gun show attracted an estimated 2,500 people.
