DID YOU KNOW?

Do you know the difference between a hurricane WATCH and a hurricane WARNING?

A HURRICANE WATCH means that hurricane conditions are possible within the specified area. Watches are issued 48 hours ahead of the anticipated onset of tropical storm force winds.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO? During a watch you should begin to prepare your home and review your plan for evacuation in case a warning is issued. Listen closely to instructions from local officials.

A HURRICANE WARNING means that hurricane conditions are expected within the specified area. Warnings are issued 36 hours in advance of the anticipated onset of tropical storm force winds.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO? During a warning you should complete storm preparations and immediately leave the threatened area if directed by local officials. Continue to listen to instructions from local media and officials
