Carriage Horses out of operation due to extreme heat
CHARLESTON, SC (WTAT-TV) KATE MOSSO -The extreme heat has pulled carriage horses off the street. Some critics say that this isn’t enough. Kate Mosso meets with Tommy Doyle, General Manager of Palmetto Carriage Works, explains how the heat has cost the industry hundreds of thousands of dollars. This also affects the employees as well. Doyle agrees that it’s what is best for the animals. No matter the season, the safety of the animals is important to him and his staff.
Joe Elmore, President and CEO of the Charleston Animal Society, states that “It is the Animal Society’s opinion that the conditions are too harsh for the horses to be working” and calls the current city code inappropriate for these working animals.
Tommy Doyle invites people out to tour the barn and get an inside look at the conditions.
