FOOD FRIDAY: BASIC KITCHEN
CHARLESTON, SC (FOX 24 NEWS NOW) This week’s Food Friday takes Leyla Gulen to BASIC KITCHEN, which is anything but basic. Their goal is simple. They use in-season produce and the best ingredients to nourish your soul and keep you on the move. Chef Nicholas Wilber’s philosophy is “Eat locally, eat healthy – don’t overdo anything”.
“We wanted to provide Charleston with simple but fresh and nutritious food”, explained Chef Wilber “we found a great little niche that was missing in the market”. BASIC KITCHEN offers a variety of cuisine which includes Vegan dishes and Gluten Free desserts.
Chef Wilber started Leyla with Mushroom Rillette, a bread made from Anson Mills Grits, pickled cornichons and grainy mustard. Next on the menu was Shrimp Veracruz using local shrimp.
