SUMMERVILLE, SC (FOX 24) – What comes to mind when you think of Philadelphia? The liberty bell, rocky balboa, and of course, the world-famous Philly cheesesteak sandwich.

On this week’s edition Food Friday, we take you to Philly’s in Summerville.

Philly’s has been serving up mouthwatering fare for 28 years – so what’s the secret to their success?

‘We bring the cheesesteak from Philadelphia, where my husband’s (Steve) family had restaurants’, co-owner Cherie Castellucci says. ‘It is THE original Philly cheesesteak, it’s the same that they served in Philadelphia we’re now serving in Summerville.’

Cherie and Steve’s son, Stefan, has loved the business since he was a child and decided to carry on the family tradition, working as the restaurant’s kitchen manager.

“It’s a lot of hard work, but I’m really starting to enjoy it,” he laughs.

Philly’s has been voted Charleston’s Best Cheesesteak for eight consecutive years – Leyla Gulen goes behind the scenes and discovers why.
