87 Cases of Rabid Animals Have Been Reported Across the State
CHARLESTON, SC (FOX24 NEWS NOW) —
An Ohio woman was left parapalegic after her dog licked her. Unaware of her animal’s infection, she slipped into a ten-day coma. The woman was able to recover from the coma, but at the expense of her arm and legs. As pet owners, it is nothing out of the ordinary to show love and care for our animals. However, the Department of Health and Environmental Control cautions owners to be careful: 87 cases of rabid animals have been reported across the state.
Dr. Kevin Keenan of East Cooper Medical Center joins us to go over how to recognize these cases, what precautions to take, and how to treat these cases . “The classic foaming at the mouth isn’t the only thing to look for,” Keenan reiterated.
