A Fresh Start to a Brighter Future
CHARLESTON, SC (FOX24 NEWS NOW) — An estimated 4,000 individuals are homeless in South Carolina. As the population increases, the cost of living rises and more people are left without a place to live. Adolescents between the ages of 18 and 24 make up a large portion of these demographics and face an even greater disadvantage when trying to receive housing. Compared to other age groups, young adults have a greater challenge finding jobs because they have little-to-no work experience, may lack a means of transportation, and rarely have any credit history. The absence of family support or education also serve as possible drawbacks.
With all of these challenges in mind, One80 Place was founded in 1984 with the goal of providing immediate shelter to those in need. The company has evolved tremendously over the past 30 years, allowing the organization to shift focus to finding ways to prevent and end homelessness. Chief Development Officer of One80 Place, Marco Corona, goes into detail about how they hope to implement these plans.
