Charleston Defense Industry Leaders Come Together to Drive Careers of Local Students
CHARLESTON, SC (FOX 24 NEWS NOW) – On this edition of Money Monday, the Charleston Defense Contractors Association and defense contractor companies have partnered together to drive the careers of local students by offering paid internships in Charleston’s defense industry. We were joined by Stella Mercado, chair of the nonprofit’s internship program, Caleb Shomo, vice president of human resources for Life Cycle Engineering, and Evan Sliker, a cybersecurity and system administrator intern.
2019 brings about the beginning of the CDCA’s 14th Annual Internship Program. The program fosters an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), all of which are vital to successful careers in the defense field.
Since its inception in 2006, the initiative has served 94 interns and includes around a dozen participating companies a year.

– Netizen Corporation
– Scientific Research Corporation
– Systems Technology Forum, Ltd.
The defense industry is a major component of Charleston’s economic success, driving more than $10 billion to the local economy.
